AI Reply Assistant — Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

How do I install the AI Reply Assistant extension?

Head to the Chrome Web Store, search for "Donbrico AI Reply Assistant," and click "Add to Chrome." Once installed, pin the extension to your toolbar for easy access. You’ll see a small onboarding prompt to complete the initial setup.

Do I need an account to use the AI Reply Assistant?

Yes, you’ll need a free Donbrico account to activate the extension. Sign up directly from the onboarding screen inside the extension popup. This lets you save your tone preferences and manage your API key if you choose to bring your own model.

What’s the first thing I should do after installing?

Open any messaging platform like Gmail, a support ticket interface, or Airbnb messages. Click the Donbrico icon in the input field – the extension will automatically read the conversation context. Try generating a reply with the default tone to see how it works before customizing settings.

Can I use this on platforms other than email?

Absolutely. The AI Reply Assistant works on any text input field inside your browser – social media comments, Slack messages, Zendesk tickets, and Airbnb inboxes. There’s no need to switch tabs or copy-paste content; it detects the conversation wherever you type.

Features & Usage

How does the extension read my conversation context?

The extension analyzes the visible text on the page, including the previous messages in the thread or comment chain. It does not scan your entire browsing history or unrelated tabs. This contextual reading allows the AI to generate replies that reference specific points from the conversation.

Can I change the tone of the generated replies?

Yes. Open the extension popup and navigate to "Tone & Style." You can choose presets like Professional, Friendly, or Concise, or write a custom instruction such as "Sound like a helpful Airbnb host." The AI will apply this tone to every reply until you change it.

How do I edit a reply before sending it?

After clicking "Generate Reply," the suggested text appears directly in the input field. You can edit it like any normal message – add a sentence, change a word, or delete parts. The extension does not send anything automatically; you have full control before hitting send.

Can I use the AI Reply Assistant for social media comments?

Yes. Navigate to any social media platform like LinkedIn, Twitter, or Facebook. Click inside the comment box, and the Donbrico icon will appear. The extension reads the original post and existing replies to craft a relevant, natural-sounding comment.

Does it work with multiple languages?

The AI Reply Assistant works best in English, but it can generate replies in other languages if the conversation context is in that language. For best results, set your preferred language in the tone settings. The underlying model may produce less accurate replies for uncommon languages.

Privacy & Security

Where does my conversation data get processed?

By default, all processing happens locally on your device using Gemini Nano. No text from your conversations is sent to external servers. If you choose to bring your own API key (BYOK), data is sent to that provider (e.g., OpenAI) solely for generating the reply, and Donbrico does not store or log it.

Does Donbrico store my messages or replies?

No. Donbrico does not store your conversation history, generated replies, or any personal data on its servers. The extension only retains your tone preferences and API key settings locally in your browser. Your privacy is built into the design – we don’t train on your data.

What happens if I use a free API key from a third party?

If you enable BYOK with a third-party provider like OpenAI, your conversation context is sent to that provider’s servers to generate the reply. Review that provider’s privacy policy for how they handle data. You can switch back to local AI (Gemini Nano) at any time in the settings.

Is the extension safe to use on work accounts?

Yes. The extension does not access your login credentials, passwords, or payment details. It only reads text visible in the active input field. Many customer support agents and freelancers use it on work platforms like Gmail and Zendesk without security concerns.

Pricing & Licensing

Is there a free version of the AI Reply Assistant?

Yes. The free version includes unlimited local AI replies using Gemini Nano and basic tone settings. You can generate as many replies as you want without paying. Premium features like custom tone instructions and BYOK support require a subscription.

What do I get with a premium subscription?

Premium unlocks the ability to bring your own API key (BYOK) for higher-quality models like GPT-4, plus advanced tone customization where you can write detailed style instructions. Pricing is per month and can be managed from your Donbrico account dashboard.

Can I cancel my subscription anytime?

Yes. You can cancel your premium subscription from your Donbrico account settings at any time. Access continues until the end of the current billing period. After cancellation, you revert to the free plan with local AI only – no data is lost.

Troubleshooting

The extension icon isn’t showing up on my messaging platform. What’s wrong?

First, make sure the extension is pinned to your toolbar. If it still doesn’t appear, refresh the page or restart Chrome. Some platforms (like certain custom web apps) may require you to click inside the text field first. If the issue persists, check that the extension is enabled in your Chrome extensions list.

The generated reply doesn’t match the conversation context. How can I fix this?

This usually happens when the extension can’t fully read the conversation thread. Try scrolling up to load older messages so they appear on screen, then click the Donbrico icon again. Also, check that your tone setting isn’t overriding the context – reset it to "Neutral" and regenerate.

My API key isn’t working with the BYOK feature. What should I do?

Ensure you’ve copied the full API key from your provider’s dashboard without extra spaces. Verify that the key has active billing and permissions for the model you selected. If it still fails, switch back to local AI temporarily and contact support with the error message shown in the extension.

The extension slows down my browser. Is there a fix?

The local AI model (Gemini Nano) can use some system resources. Close other heavy tabs or extensions to improve performance. If you’re on a lower-end device, consider using BYOK with a cloud model instead, which offloads processing to the provider’s servers. You can also disable the extension on pages where you don’t need it.
